Fern Creek Cross
Country 2018 Week 6 Recap
Greater Louisville
Classic – 9/29/18
A crisp fall morning, a
brand-new Greater Louisville course, and an up-and-down day for the FC XC
team. Although we had lots of great
times and some encouraging performances, some of us took small steps back. Additionally, having two athletes need to
visit the medical tent put a damper on the day (through no fault of their
own!), and hopefully we can get our runners healed up and feeling good for next
weekend. Full results and recap below:

Highlights:
· Dawayad sets a new PR, gained 4 places over the second half
of the race, and put himself in to the top-25 in a LOADED meet. Congrats!
Wear that Greater Louisville shirt with pride! It is also worth
mentioning that he is now the fourth
fastest Fern Creek XC Runner in School History!
· Despite dealing with heat exhaustion, Jimmy also set a new PR and ran a
tremendously strong race, especially for a Freshman. He did lose a few spots over the second half
of the race, but hung in there and showed a ton of toughness despite dealing
with a rough day physically for him.
· Youhana is BACK! Greater Louisville last year was Youhana’s
first sub-19 performance, and he is on track to have a similar second half of
the season this year it looks like. This
kid kept getting stronger and stronger as the race went on, moving from 255th
to 203rd place!!! He caught
over 50 guys! Now that he is gaining
confidence and conditioning, Youhana can go out a bit quicker and get back in
to the low-18s. Good to have you back
sir!
· Justin also gained a TON of places over the second half of
the race, moving from 253rd to 213th! He nearly PRed, and when he heard his time heading
in to the kick, he found another gear.
The key moving forward will be to tap in to that extra energy a bit
earlier, and put himself in position to run in the low-18s. Him and Youhana will be training together
from here on out.
· Greg went out bravely, and FAST, but was perhaps a bit too
aggressive early, as he faded down the stretch.
Moving forward as one of our Varsity athletes – he perhaps needs to
start focusing on his race the night before – avoiding being on his feet all
night, getting a good dinner, and HYDRATING.
When this guy does the little things right he is capable of great
things! He will be back.
· A HUGE PR
for Zach, who continues to impress
with his ability to excel both on the soccer field and xc course. Is there any doubt that this kid will break
the 19-minute barrier soon?
· Check out that year-to-year improvement from Hayden!
Nearly two minutes faster than at this point last year! Summer miles and consistent training pays
off! Although he didn’t quite PR, it’s still fun to pencil him
in as a pretty consistent low-19 runner and to see the progress that he has
made over his HS career.
My challenge to the entire varsity group is this… what
do you want the last few races of your season to look like? Are you willing to sacrifice just a bit
more? Are you willing to fully invest in
your teammates by giving them 100% of yourself?
Are you willing to put aside some football games, some social life, and
some free time in order to do ALL of the little things that will make you a
better runner and athlete? The healthy
meals, the stretching, the hip mobility, the consistent sleep… When you look back at your season a year from
now will you be able to say that you did everything you could both for yourself
and for the guys and girls that wear that FC Jersey and line up next to you? Or will you regret the things you could have
done better and the times you could have been a better teammate? I am so proud of all that you each have
accomplished so far, but I think there’s another level in most of you that you
can get to, and I can’t wait to see the success you have if you’re willing to
go there. Embrace the grind.

Highlights:
· Tayona continues to impress – she’s faster than ANY girl we
had on the team last year! She sets a
new PR, runs tough, and maintained her overall race position throughout. I still think she has another gear to get
to! We’ve got to get this girl some
spikes!
· Trishna throws down a full minute PR! Wow!
This girl has come so far in such a short time and she just gets better
and better and better. She has 100% of
the running bragging rights in the Dahal family. AND she gained a full 16 spots over the
second half of the race! Strong!
· Kaci just barely missed out on a PR but nevertheless ran
super tough and also gained places over the second half of the race. She continues to make our girls squad so much
better and we are so happy to have her on the weekends.
· After dealing with cramping and some setbacks last
weekend Serenity comes through and
runs a SOLID first 5k for us! Although
she faded a bit in the second half, that’s totally expected for someone running
their first race, and she’s only going to get better and faster as she gains
more experience in these long races.
Great job girl!
· Karuna also narrowly missed on a PR, but had another solid
race. Our girls team is so much stronger
this you in large part to your presence on the team. You would have been our #2 girl last year!
· KC has only a few weeks training under her belt and she’s
already graduated from 4ks to 5ks!
Congrats on completing your first one!
You are only going to get better from here! Way to run consistently, not stop, and show
that toughness that I know you have! We
are so glad you decided to join the team.

Team Place = 19th / 40 Teams (and would
have been even lower with Jayden)
Highlights:
· A big 30-second PR for Sam! Most years this guy
would be solidly in our top-7, and he is doing a great job leading the JV guys
on race day while also training with our Varsity group. Excited to see what he does next weekend when
the entire team runs together at Fast Cats.
· Also a 30-second PR for Carter, who breaks the 21-minute barrier for the first time. Congrats!
· Joseph continues to get in better and better shape, and our
goal is to have him back to his PR times by the end of the season. At the rate that he’s progressing, he can
definitely do it! He’s taken three
minutes off from the first race of the year!
· BoBo takes AN ENTIRE MINUTE off of his 5k PR. What!?
GREAT JOB SIR! As he learns to be
more smooth and consistent in his running, he will be stronger over the second
half of the race and those times will continue to come down.
· PR’s all over the place as Levi continues to get better and better the more he runs and
trains. Probably one of the most
consistent runners in terms of his practice work ethic on the entire team, and
it’s showing!
· Dain figured if everyone else was running fast – he should
too. He takes OVER TWO MINUTES off the
last 5k he completed and has a huge PR!
Congrats! Not to mention he
caught 20+ runners over the second half of the race. What toughness from a freshman!
· Jackson continues to round in to form and runs a much more
solid race than his 5k at Franklin Co.
He still has a few more races to finish up his Sr Season in good form!
