KHSAA Region 4 Class 3A Results & Recap

2017 KHSAA Region 4 Class 3A

Guys
Sair Salgado 16:39.26 (14th) Qualifies for the KHSAA State Meet
Dawayad Paul 17:53.03 (33rd) Qualifies for the KHSAA State Meet
Youhana Lado 18:08.79 (35th) Qualifies for the KHSAA State Meet PR
Frank Henon 18:16.34 (38th) Qualifies for the KHSAA State Meet PR
Jacorey Huguley 18:35.99 (42nd)
Justin Sharp 18:41.78 (44th) PR
Weston Shely 19:20.71 (49th) PR

Sair battles with the top group for as long as possible, clocking a sub-5:00 minute first mile, running a very brave race.  He runs a great time and qualifies for the State Meet next weekend, where he’ll look to go out a bit more under control and run a PR in his final 5k as a Senior.

Dawayad is back in the 17:00s where he belongs, and overcomes a nagging foot injury to solidify his spot in the State Meet!  What a great job this kid has done in his first Cross Country season.

Youhana continues to look stronger and stronger the more training he gets under his belt.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he blows by that 18:00 minute mark next weekend at State.  The kid does everything right and his hard work is paying dividends.

Coming down the stretch, Frank knew what he had to do.  With two Atherton runners in front of him, a spot at State wasn’t going to be easy.  But he did it, putting himself in position over the final mile to beat both in the final finishing stretch.  As a Senior in what would have been his last race, I can’t be more proud of the fact that he gets one more week in his Cross Country career.  Not bad for a kid who still might think he’s a basketball player.

Despite just missing out on making the State Meet, Jacorey had a nice bounce-back race to put himself in position to run his second-fastest 5k of the year.  On a course he hates, and in weather not ideal for him, he ran tough and left it all out there in his final Cross Country race for Fern Creek.  He now focuses on helping prep the guys for the State Meet next week, and then taking some well-deserved time off before leaving his mark on Track season, where I expect him to do great things.

Weston Shely, the freshman phenom, smashes 20:00 and puts himself soundly in to our varsity group from here on out.  Who knows what this guy is capable of moving forward in to Track and beyond.  He could be a sub 18:00 kid by this time next year.  Congrats on a great race!

Girls
Shelby Brunner 25:23.94 Season PR
Sara Barnett 29:15.55 PR
Hemanta Dahal 30:15.21 PR
Keyanna Bottoms 30:37.28 PR

Shelby goes out with a hard-fought season PR, running a fantastic race and closing out her Cross-Country career on a very positive, if cold, note.  Thank you Shelby for always being imminently coachable, and taking the younger girls under your wing.  Next up: Track Season, and back to those shorter distances you excel at =)

Sara runs a new all-time PR and breaks through that 30:00 barrier in her last race of the season!  Congrats! With more training going in to the next season I think a lot of success awaits you if you decide to stick with it.

How about Hemanta deciding before she even stepped to the line that she was going to run a tough race.  Her attitude towards running has completely changed and she’s now embracing the challenge for the feeling of a job-well-done that can only come with completing a 5k and pushing yourself to the limit.  And her reward for this new-found competitive spirit?  A new PR!  Great job!

Keyanna was dealt some adversity right before the start of the race, when her jerk Coach informed her that she wouldn’t be able to wear her under-jersey cold weather gear.  Despite this, she persevered, ran her toughest race of the year, and was rewarded with a new PR.  Great job!  Next up this girl gets to show her All-State triple-jumping ability as we move towards Track Season.

Next Week
State Meet!

2017 JV Regionals Results

2017 Louisville Area JV Regionals Results

Boys JV
·         Joseph Coyle 20:07.25 (Season PR)
·         Sam Stewart 20:08.58 (PR)
·         Wisdom Lynch 20:09.79 (PR)
·         Carter Brown 22:29.83 (PR)
·         Levi Raymer 22:55.17 (PR)
·         Jackson Zehnder 23:53.81 (PR)
·         Jayden Jones No Official Time

Team Place = 9 / 11 Teams

Highlights
Joseph runs his second-fastest 5k ever, narrowly missing an all-time PR, but running his best race of the season.  If only it were a little colder…

Sam sets a HUGE PR, knocking over a minute off of his time!  He’s knocking on the door of breaking 20 and will definitely do it next year after a track season, and another summer of conditioning.

Wisdom also takes over a minute off his best time, rounding out an impressive pack from our JV guys.  It’s been a pleasure having him on our squad and we aren’t going to let him skip out on track season, either.

After joining our team halfway through the season, Carter goes from running a 27-minute 5k at the Louisville Pure Tap road race, to breaking 23-minutes in his last meet of the season.  We are very excited to see what this kid can do with a year of conditioning under his belt.

The sub-23 crowd welcomes a new member in Levi Raymer, who runs a strong race and sets another all-time PR.

Jackson Zehnder crushes his PR, by over a minute!  He was really competing out there and the results speak for themselves.

Jayden faced a tough day and went out too aggressively… his asthma flared up and was really giving him trouble.  Rather than quit and drop out though he finished the race.  I loved seeing our team cheer him on as he finished.  GREAT JOB YESTERDAY EVERYONE.
