Week 8 Recap

Fern Creek Cross Country 2018 Week 8 Recap

Atherton Rebellion Cross Country Classic – 10/13/18
Darkness and cold temperatures welcomed Fern Creek XC to the 2018 Rebellion Cross Country Classic.  In the Boys Varsity Meet, we achieved one of our goals in beating Atherton, but fell short of claiming a trophy by finishing third, rather than in the top-2.  With about two weeks left in the season, can we take another step like we did last year in heading in to Regionals?  Only one more meet (JCPS Championships) to find out before everything counts.  On the Girls side, we were very shorthanded, with only three runners, and Trishna dealing with a bad cold, but each girl ran well and strong despite being freezing cold!  In the Boys JV race, there were almost too many PRs to list up here – we’ll get in to it below:

Note: I apologize for not having splits this week.  My hands were freezing and I was focused on counting the boys places in order to see if we had a chance to finish top-2.

Team Place = 3rd / 7 Teams

Highlights:
·       A pair of top-10 finishes for Dawayad and Jimmy as they continue to be super consistent in pacing our team.  Great work guys, way to represent our squad up there receiving medals.  You can tell both of these guys really do all of the little things in and out of practice to be this successful this consistently.  Greatness isn’t an accident!
·       Tactically, Youhana ran a nice race, moving up throughout the packs and gaining places pretty consistently throughout the course of the race.  Nonetheless, I know that he can go out a bit faster and be a bit tougher – he has it in him!  We need ONE or TWO guys to place themselves in the low-18s so we can take that next step as a Varsity group.
·       As a team, we continued to assert ourselves over Atherton – a (friendly) regional foe that we will need to beat in a few week.  These guys are battling though!  Nothing wrong with a friendly rivalry.

Highlights:
·       Tayona ran really well and was only a bit off of her all-time PR!
·       A bit of a step back for Kaci and Trishna, but they still have two races to show what they can do, and Kaci will hopefully be doing some running with us this week at practice.

Highlights:
·       A HUGE Season-PR for Joseph Coyle!  He actually beat Jayden from the Varsity race, and is getting very close to his all-time PR, despite having to miss the summer due to surgery.  It’s awesome to see success for such a great kid.
·       I have no idea what Dain Elmore ate for breakfast, but he needs to keep it up.  He took over 3 minutes off of his 5k PR!  3 Minutes!? Dain looked like a completely different runner today.  His stride was longer, he ran with toughness, and he was rewarded for it.  Look out!  Big things ahead for him!
·       A full-minute PR for Levi Raymer!  Awesome job!  One of our most consistent runners in terms of being at practice, conditioning, and doing all of the little things that he needs to be successful.  And it shows!
·       Nearly a PR for Bul, as he was only two seconds off of his best time.  Just need to be a bit more consistent in your pacing!  But a great run.
·       A THREE MINUTE PR for Ethan Sells!  Whoah!  Much like Dain, he looked like a completely different runner this week!  Great Job Ethan!  Onward and upward from here.
·       A nice season-pr for Jackson as he looks to close out his Senior Season on a high note.
