Fern Creek Cross
Country 2018 Week 7 Recap
Fast Cats Classic
Classic – 10/06/18
As I told you all on the bus
when we got back home… some weeks you will PR, some weeks you wont. Sometimes a race will go your way, and sometimes
it won’t. But despite the ups and downs
you always have control over how you treat others. The thing that makes me most
proud of our team was the way you all supported one another all weekend, and
the way you conducted yourselves and represented your school and community with
pride and class wherever we went. We received compliments
all weekend on the way you carried yourselves.
Great job. On to the results:

Team Place = 7th / 37 Teams
Highlights:
· Before the race we talked about going out under
control and with patience, and both Dawayad
and Jimmy executed perfectly –
and were rewarded with top-10 finishes.
An ideal 5k race has a second-mile split within 20-25 seconds of the
first mile. Both runners did this,
leaving enough in the tank to finish exceptionally well and move up throughout
the race. Dawayad was in 21st
place at the mile, with Jimmy behind him, and both used their controlled starts
to move up throughout the race. Great
job!
· Jimmy set a new PR and is now the fastest freshman in JCPS!
· Whooooahhhhh Mickey! In his first 5k Mickey showed how talented he
is, finishing under 19:00 and in third on our team. Impressive!
· A nice PR for Hayden
Curtis, finishing as our 5th man and helping us to our best-ever
finish at the Fast Cats Classic! Great
job Varsity Group!
· Jayden Jones DESTROYED his previous PR by nearly two-minutes! No more messing around for this kid, he needs
to practice harder and more consistently.
The sky is the limit based on his talent – let’s go to work. GREAT RACE Jayden!
· A solid run for Carter,
only a few second off of his PR despite very tough conditions.
· A new PR for Ethan
Sells and his first time under 27:00.
Great job! Next weekend under cooler temperatures you will run even
faster!

Highlights:
· Despite extremely hot and humid conditions, we had a
solid 1-2 punch with Kaci Dodd and Tayona both finishing not far away from
their all-time PRs. Way to race at the
end ladies! That was fun to watch.
· In general our girls need to go out a bit slower, and
aim to be more consistent with their mile splits. Despite that, I am very proud of how you all
competed despite the very tough conditions.
· Nice PR Karuna! I have no idea how anyone would run their
best race in that weather but you did it!
A true display of toughness.
· Congrats on finishing your first 5k Jekayla and to Diana for her PR!
