FC XC & Track Update – 11/25/18
With a number of items to
address and lots of information to get out there, I figured that this would be
easier than sending a million messages through remind. First of all, I hope that each of you had a
restful and re-energizing Thanksgiving Break.
In your full semester classes, this will be one of the most difficult
stretches of the year, with teachers ramping up the expectations and Final
Exams approaching quickly. Don’t focus
on Winter Break – lock down and take care of your academics. You don’t want to put in 12 weeks of work
only to have your grade slip over the final four weeks of the semester.
Monday
(Tomorrow)
I unfortunately came down
with a pretty serious sinus infection and will not be at work tomorrow. I am currently working to confirm whether or
not the sprints group has practice. If
they do, you are encouraged to warm up with them and then go out on a long (6-8
mile) run.

do it ASAP.
Winter Practice
Schedule
Until we return from our long
winter break in January, this will be the practice schedule for the distance
crew. Remember, winter practice
attendance determines who will run in our indoor season meets.
Monday – 2:45
– 4:30
Tuesday – No
Practice
Wednesday – 2:45
– 4:30
Thursday –
2:45 – 4:30
Friday –
2:45 – 4:30
We are also working on developing a
Saturday practice focused on running hills, in conjunction with the Male
Distance squad. I will have more
information on this soon. We would run
some hills together and then get breakfast afterward. A great way to start off your Saturdays and
get you up and out.
Running in the Winter
For the most part, our runs
in the winter will look very similar to XC Season. Our warmups and cooldown activities will take
place indoors, but our runs will be OUTSIDE.
Bringing hats, gloves, and layers are extremely important. Immediately after running, when you get back
inside, it is important to have dry clothes to change in to. Cold weather running doesn’t cause you to get
sick, but cold weather running followed by hanging out in cold sweaty clothes
for an hour definitely can. In the event
of extreme snow or cold we will obviously adjust our plan.
